The Fact File was born out of a general belief that people around the world need facts—not just information. We are bombarded with information from cable news channels driving media coverage from ideological perspectives. The problem is the information is often wrong and gets countered with information that is even more incorrect. The casualty in all of this is not only the truth, but freedom and democracy, which rely on an informed public to make good choices that are reflected in sound stable government.
The mission of The Fact File is to improve the discourse by being an independent source for news and analysis that truly informs rather than persuades. We are guided by Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s famous quote, “everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but they are not entitled to their own facts.” As The Fact File grows over the coming months, we will be presenting the news, interviews, and other content that you might find in other sources, but our stories will provide you with the background for the story based on facts and hopefully a few innovative ways of presenting that information.
The Fact File founders are all trained to present information in an interesting but truthful manner. We are political scientists and investigative journalists. We are the kind of people you might hire to do some research or crunch some numbers. But, because we rely on donations and advertising revenue you don’t have to hire us—because like all of the best things in life, The Fact File is free! (Of course, clicking on one of our third party vendor ads is always appreciated since it helps keep the lights on here at The Fact File.)
